...Thursday 5/9/2002 was NOT a good day in Afghanistan..
I was working in my new office, at the Ministry of Communications, with a British colleague of mine, when we've heard the first blast and all the windows in the office in front of us went down..
The rules in these case is to stay away from the windows: the first blast is just there to attract people.. and that's exactly what happened that day: the second blast 10 minutes later was much more powerful..
thanks God we were in a safe place inside the Ministry.. [bunkers are my friends..]
Looking out the windows, we saw all these bodies scattered on the floor, with heads rolling, dismembered people.. and everybody running in all directions, screaming..
Of course, the second blast shattered some of the windows in our building, but luckily, only in one my project rooms.

Later, we could not get any communications, apart from the Internet [how ironic !]: I had to send e-mail back to the office to tell them I was OK.. A car was send to pick me up from the Ministry: drive back in a complete chaos, with smell of burn flesh...
All UN offices were evacuated and everybody was safe at home around 6 pm (blast was at 3 pm local time).
Later in the evening we learned that an attempt to kill the president had been foiled.

Thanks God nobody in my team was injured and we are well.
But it just adds to the tension here...  That evening we had to dance...
